The Zippo Manufacturing Company, one of the most recognized brands in the world, was founded in the fall of 1932 by George G. Blaisdell in Bradford, Pennsylvania, where it has manufactured over 550 million windproof lighters.

All Zippo windproof lighters feature state-of-the-art printing methods that allow for the imprinting of multiple colors or full-color photographic representations. The image is die struck onto various metal substrates such as brass, aluminum, and pewter, and the graphic is rendered in state-of-the-art 3D software. A powerful milling machine accurately engraves deep contoured cuts into an Armor case using many tool sizes, special buffing, and plating.

Zippo offers two processes for engraving: auto engrave and laser engrave. Auto engrave is performed by skilled artisans to inscribe an image into the product using creative fill patterns, while laser engraving is computer programmed to generate an accurate replication of an imprint.

The filigree lighters have a standard case shape featuring rounded corners and a top with a flat bottom. A five-barrel hinge joins the top and the bottom. The standard insert has 16 holes in the chimney (8 per side), and the bottom stamp with the Zippo logo from the period authenticates these lighters as genuine Zippo.
